Description:
In the 2022-2023 DEWA AI Competition, I served as the team leader and programmer, working with two other girls to develop a smart building prototype for DEWA that utilized facial recognition technology and renewable energy. Over 8 weeks during my 10th-grade school year, we dedicated 15 hours per week to this project. Our prototype featured a camera that recognized faces, allowing the door to open if the face was identified or keeping it closed and reporting unauthorized attempts to the authorities. I was responsible for programming the Raspberry Pi with machine learning to recognize allowed faces, creating a circuit with an LED, camera, and OLED display that showed “access granted” or “access denied” messages, and programming a buzz sound for alerts. Additionally, I developed the system to send an alert to authorities with a picture of the person attempting unauthorized entry and created the final submission video. As the team leader, I was chosen for my knowledge and leadership skills, particularly in managing time and ensuring productivity. The challenge of learning and implementing these technologies was significant, but with guidance from our teacher and collaboration with my teammates, we successfully created a project that was selected for winning projects.
